With April being Autism Awareness Month Nassau University Medical Center honored one of their employees Monday for making what's being called a miraculous breakthrough with a teenager with autism. The patient was admitted to NUMC after injuring himself and was placed under the care of honoree patient care assistant Michael Rayson who changed everything. The patient at first was unresponsive when admitted to the hospital but after being treated with joy, respect and love he started to respond and communicate with staffers. Hospital officials say because of the care DeLuca received, they were able to place him in a specialized, full-time program for children with autism.
